Abstract

In Indonesia, the soap opera still be the public favorite shows. Up to now countless of titles soap opera has produced in Indonesia with various genres such as drama, religion, comedy, action, etc. One of the public attention is Preman Pensiun on RCTI. Preman Pensiun is comedy drama produced by MNC Pictures Pictures and ANP Pictures. Preman Pensiun tells the life of the thugs in Bandung, includes of life community in Bandung or we can called it people of Sundanese. The research was a qualitative descriptive using the semiotic analysis approach. Semiotic method is science to analyze signs. The data was the scenes which were considered as having relation with the theme of the study- Sundanese cultural. The additional data was obtained from the articles, websites, etc. The data was subjected to sign analysis using the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes. The analysis was conducted in two phases- level I significance, that is the denotation meaning inherent in the scene and was continued with the level II significance – colaborating their connotation meaning. The meaning could be differently represented on each self audience. However, when analyzed using semiotic, it can be seen the use of myths and symbols.Sundanese cultural discourse on the object of analysis, is just packaging to attract the attention of the audience. From this study, the authors conclude that media never really give an impression something new, but it’s just old programs with differently packaged, background and characters. Aris as a screenwriter and director of Preman Pensiun 2 has the spirit of capitalism, MNC Pictures as a production house also have a very strong spirit of capitalism.
